Subject: The Historic Apple Festival Parade

At the request of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, I would join them in marching in the Annual Historic Apple Festival Parade ; a focal event that culminates the festival  after several days of festivities in down town Hendersonville, North Carolina. As is usual in most of the events that the Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy, the ladies of the Rose ,and others decked out in their period clothes participate ; they would received a thunderous reception from the thrones of spectators gathered on this Labor Day.

Less than an block, I had broken ranks with the soldiers and had began to thoroughly enjoyed myself, hugging , sharing laughter , posing for many a camera shot with many a citizen , both Red ,Yellow , Black and White; young, old and somewhere in between . On this day they would shout out and cheer for the Confederate Soldiers honorable name, never mind that so many had tried to disgrace him in shame. I would find myself in the midst of the crowd, somewhat lagging the ranks of the soldiers processional file, surrounded by several beautiful Black girls. As I hugged the last of these girls, one held onto my hand, and asked as the last of the Sons and ladies of the South's passed by; but don't they hate us ? Yes said another, it was on the ticker tape on Fox News this morning that they do. No , I exclaimed ! We are family. Getting further behind in the parade, I explained to the girls who had seen the Fox report on the visitation of the Ku Klux Klan's in Gettysburg, that only said in that ticker tape : " the Klan had visited Gettysburg where Lincoln had given the Gettysburg address, and reiterated their hatred of Blacks, Jews, Gays, and Latinos. They went on to report that several groups came to protest the Klan behind a barricade. What Fox did not tell these babies , was that one of those very groups that came to protest the Klan's action, were men and women dressed in those very same uniforms and period dresses, carrying that very same glorious banner that I so very proudly stood their holding as my Southern family shouted out my name; I hug the girls once again, and as I hurried away, these same young ladies would shout out; Mr.. Edgerton, we love you too !

Subject: An Open Letter / We Must Save Our South

Our President speaks volumes about freedom , honor , democracy and the will of the people, yet stands idly by as this nations finest schools continue to inculcate into the thinking process of our children and adult citizens a brand of hatred against the bravest men and women who built the very foundation of this nation , and whose prodigy like them are proud to be called Southern; no matter their caste.

Having spent the last few days on the campus of East Tennessee State University confabulating with so many bright and inquisitive minds, I have become more energize to make the journey to our Nations Capitol seeking justice for the brave men , women, and children  who fought a brave and noble cause for what they believed in. I shall ask him to end the planned modus operandi of the Federal Government which began with the establishment of the public school system and so called Freedman's Bureau ; to divide and separate White and Black folks in the Southland of America . I shall ask him to suspend sending our federal dollars to reconstruct any other nation, like I shall ask Oprah, until they look inward to the devastation and its residual effects that still linger here after that great war. I shall ask him to return the stealing that has gained interest in the coffers of this nation , so that we can repair and restore our Southland to the station she had before that invader that we called brother came and destroyed the highway of love  and social vertical mobility  that God in his infinite wisdom placed us upon; no matter that one was called slave and the other master.

I ask again that you all please support this endeavor ; for  no matter what side of the Mason Dixon you reside , for the benefit of our nation, this must end in the honor that Marse Lee intended when he surrendered the greatest fighting machine in the annals of mankind.

Our planned March begins on October 14, 2006 in Madison Heights, Virginia  from the beautiful Dixie OutFitters store ; rain, sun. sleet or snow, at 8:00 A.M..

Subject: East Tennessee State University

Today August 31, 2006 because of the tremendous rain that was falling, I stood at the window contemplating on whether to once again cross the mountains into Johnson City, Tennessee. My sister like her mother must have been reading my mind. She gave me a tremendous tongue lashing about how I was always bragging about how my stock ran up while I was out marching with my Confederate Flag when the weather was bad. You've got your uniform on, now get out of here and run your stock up she said.

When I arrived in Johnson City, the rain was now falling harder. I did not hesitate; up Roan Street I would head to a grand ovation from most who passed by. Pretty well soaked, I arrived on the campus of East Tennessee State at approximately 10:15 A.M.. I headed straight to Dr. Collin Baxter's office for the fourth time ; expecting once again to hear the nice lady tell me that he was not in. However, this time she instructed me to go on back to his office. We introduced ourselves, and I told Dr. Baxter that my brother and dear friend the Tennessee Brigade  Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Jim Maddox had nothing but praise for him, but that I had come on an extremely unpleasant mission. He informed me that he too felt that not only was Commander Maddox an honorable man , but also one who was very knowledgeable. I explained to him that Professor Andrew Slap had humiliated and placed great shame on one of his students, T.K. Owens.  Professor Slap had asked of T.K. as he had other students to describe what the Confederate flag meant to them. Swelling with pride and the knowledge that his grand pa had so honorably served with distinction in the ranks of the Confederate Army, T.K. would embark on relaying this fact to Mr..Slap and the members of his class, only to be told by Professor slap to take his seat, and that T.K.'s family history was totally wrong, for there was no such thing as a Black Confederate Soldier. Never mind that T.K.'s family had just recently been honored by the Sons of Confederate Veterans at a Memorial Service honoring his grand pa . He would indicate that the only reason for the Sons actions was to uplift there negative image in the community. To see the scowl on Doctor Baxter's face spoke volumes of what he would now say to me. " Mr.. Edgerton he began; on behalf of this University and this History Department that I Chair ; I am appalled by the actions of Professor Slap, and I offer our most heartfelt apology to Mr.. Owens , his family and to all the Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy, be they Red, Black or White. He went on to say that this would never again happen while he held the Chair, and that the Provost , Doctor Bauch did not take it lightly, or would not, to have any of his students embarrassed in this manner. I thanked this good man that sat before me profusely, and left his office with a sense of tremendous relief.

Commander Maddox would come again around noon to fetch me, and once again find me surrounded by my babies as I held court outside the History Department speaking of the love that Southern White and Black folk have shared for each other that has carried them through some of the most turbulent times in our American History , as those who do not like , or understand us have done any and everything to keep us apart. May God bless Doctor Baxter, East Tennessee State University, Commander Jim Maddox and the Tennessee Sons of Confederate Veterans , and may Butler Owens, a Black Confederate Soldier now rest in peace.

Subject: Radio Interview ? Talk Radio WWNC 530 Am Matt MIttans Take A Stand Program

On Tuesday evening August 22, 2006, Terry Lee and I would continue the media frenzy we have been on in the past several months in support of our Southern Cross and the pledge that we made as Honorary members of over 250 Sons of Confederate Veteran Camps nation wide to defend the Confederate Soldiers good name ; as guest of popular radio talk show host Matt Mittan, on one of Western North Carolinas most historic and well respected radio stations; WWNC 530 AM.  For me Matt's program, "Take A Stand" will always be a home coming of sort, far it was here that the programs 1st annual award to an individual who has made a noble stand, was presented to me in 1998.

On this evening we would accept much praise from so many listeners and those who have followed our exploits, everyone being unforgettable, and especially the ones we received from  Black callers who were so supportive , and this support would come from one of my former NAACP committee chairs who so eloquently described the body politic in which White and Black Southerners lived in a difficult time in the development of this nation in love, harmony and respect equaled to no other place on earth during that epoch of slavery and wanton destruction of our culture.

Subject: Press Conference, Orlando, Florida

At the request of Florida Commander Bob Adams of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, on Friday August 18, Terry Lee and I attended a press conference along side the Honorable Nelson Windbush and a host of other compatriots of the Sons in Orlando, Florida. Commander Adams would so eloquently lay out how the wonderful college scholarship program would benefit; one  ironically named in honor of Mr.. Windbush's very own grandfather who just happens to be one of those so often forgotten Black Confederate Soldiers. He further pointed out how as a community organization just how those revenues would further enhance the many other community projects the Sons are actively involved in. However, we knew that as long as the Southern Cross would be the center of depiction on the plates ; the press wasn't going to let us off that easy. Mr.. Windbush built the coffin when he spoke of the Honorable General Nathan Bedford Forrest, and the service of his grand pa and the other loyal Black men who rode alongside the General. He continued own about the General's relation with the Black folk in Memphis, and further advanced the notion that Forrest not only would head up the Klan, but would be highly regarded as the first Civil Rights Leader for these very same Black folk.

It was now my time to speak, yet I pondered; here we stand at the base of a Confederate soldier who I had been told was now referred to as the minute man by the city council when they spoke of him, in a beautiful park donated to the city by a Confederate General named Summerlin. My thoughts would go even further down the road to Johnson C.Smith University, a traditionally Black College in Charlotte, N.C., where another Confederate Officer had donated his land, and even talked Yankee Soldiers into giving him the wood from the torn down Confederate hospital to build the school. Here I stood and the only thing I could think of was the kind of generosity a man must have in his heart to give so much to his community and the ultimate love and respect he must have for the man he called slave who gave so much loyalty and love of himself that he would now reciprocate. I could only speak of the honor and dignity earned, but now displaced by those who followed the same Reconstruction modus operandi that was used with the building of the Freeman's Bureau, and the establishment of the public school system in the South; divide and separate White and Black folks in the South by any means. Yes this license plate would create a great deal of dialogue, the poverty pimp's will surely come out with their distorted history and mouths dripping talks of racism, bigotry, and offense; yet never once taking one look in the mirror, or even evaluating the sum total of their very own wrong as they line their pockets while feasting at the tables of those who have taken the land, religion, and made a mockery of the Constitution , and who come again to finish destroying any vestige of the things we call Southern .

Subject: Children of Blount County / An Open Letter

It is important not to ever forget and support  the courageous babies of Blount County, Tennessee, who like their Southern ancestors have made a stand in Dixie Land for what they feel to be right. These young peoples actions are indicative of the makeup of what it truly means to be a Southern American; you can name call them, intimidate them, force shame upon them, place great odds against them, try to divide and separate them, but when the day is done and the dust has cleared; you'll find them, my Blount County babies standing proudly supported by their Judeo/Christian ethic and belief in the Constitutional values fought so hard for by their ancestors in every venue in the development of this nation.

The Blount County School Board has every right to be afraid, because it is the courage of our babies who will one day force historical truths that lay hidden in a bed of lies

March 14, 2006  As we continue to press onward with our Heritage Offense Agenda; we are proud to announce that Reverend Tom Hadley of Freewill Baptist Church in Blount County Tennessee had agreed to allow us to exhibit the Historical March Across Dixie photographs on a date to be announced later this month at the Church. With limited funding from the Tennessee Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, we have already began matting and framing selected photographs from Terry Lee Edgerton's photo collection journal that include those photographs used as expert witness evidence material in the Jacqueline Duty Case. I would hope that the many of our compatriots who donated so freely to the Historical journey would open up your purses and help us to present to the public this photo depiction that will surely give meaning to the phrase; "a picture is worth a thousand words," and more importantly they give meaning to my continue rhetoric about the love between Black and White folks in the Southland of America, no matter what story others may tell.

I especially challenge those organizations who benefit from all the positive  exposure that the Historical March Across Dixie bring to their venues to help us help our Southern cause and my babies in Blount County and across this Nation. Donations should be sent to HK Edgerton, Southern Legal Resource Center, P.O.Box1235, Black Mountain, N.C.28711

Thursday, March 09, 2006 10:11 AM  Dear Commander Butler,
I want to say first; God bless you Sir, and many thanks for all the good things you had to say about me and the wonderful people here at SLRC.

I spoke to Commander Maddux this morning about a planned art exhibit in the first church that I attended in Blount County. I have asked my little brother to show case the Historical March Across Dixie photographs in this exhibit. My debacle is that we need to frame and mat a great deal of the photos. I have already used some three hundred dollars given to me by the Tennessee Division for this endeavor. We will certainly use the pictures that were used as expert witness evidence in the Jacqueline Duty Case. I have no doubt in my mind that they will have a tremendous positive impact for our Southland when people see many of the myths about how Black people view the flag. I have no idea how much money is left, but I would love to use it in this venue, rather than just going to Blount County sitting on the side of the road or in a gym in my uniform,; which in its own right is ok. How ever I think this will give us more bang for the bucks.
                                                     Your brother,
                                                          HK
