Most of these books and hundreds of others are available
from our Internet Bookstores by clicking on any of the linked titles above and
then doing a search, or at Apologia
Book Shoppe or the preferred
Southern bookstore of your choice.
Another excellent selection of books and other pro
South articles is from the Sons of
Confederate Veterans Electronic Store. Check it out and be aware that
some of the merchandise is obviously limited to members of the SCV.

3. Visit Southern Battlefields and Heritage
Sites -
Southern history covers far more than Virginia battlefields. Make sure you visit
Fort Sumter and other landmarks in Charleston, SC, the Confederate White House
in Richmond, the Alabama Capitol and First White House of the Confederacy in
Montgomery, Shiloh Battlefield, Tennessee, Vicksburg Battlefield, Mississippi,
and other prominent landmarks. Check out the many Southern
History Sites on
Fortress Dixie. Remember the more you know about our gallant struggle for the
Constitution and for Southern Independence, the better you can defend our proud Southern
history and heritage.
4. Write
A Booklet or Pamphlet On Some Aspect of the Southern Experience -
Consider
writing and publishing an
informational booklet about the War Between the States in your local
area for distribution to interested persons, heritage groups and schools. This will help you discover new Confederate friends,
support the cause and
improve your knowledge of local Southern history. Check out the League of the
South booklet, Confederate Columbia as an example but your pamphlet can range
from this scholarly publication down to a photocopied local history of only several pages. When
writing a booklet, always be sure to list the names and address of appropriate
Southern organizations and web sites including Fortress Dixie.
5. Get Your
Children Out Of Public Schools When Necessary -
Some public schools are good and some are bad,
some teachers will teach a fair representation of the War Between the States and
others will not. I well understand that this suggestion is an individual choice
as I have one child in an excellent public school and two in private schools.
Frankly, with most public and private schools it is a good idea to supplement
the Northern bias in educational materials with a few good books that promote
the truth about the war and the South.
6. Consider Christian Private Schools - The
same that we’ve stated above can be said about Christian private schools.
Again, you have to make the best decision for your children but remember to
supplement the school study and reading materials with pro South books
appropriate for the age level and maturity of your children.
7. Home Schooling Options -
Home school your children, or at least put them in
a private, Christian academy. The public (or government) schools are often
little more than anti-Southern, anti-Christian propaganda mills. Make this sacrifice for your
children. It of course depends on your personal financial situation and your
local school system. I for example have two children in private school and one
in what I consider to be quality public school.
8. Start a Monthly Southern Reading Club -
Make new friends and educate yourself and family about topics of interest
(for those so inclined) to discuss books on historical, literary,
the Constitution, politics, theology, current events and other subjects.
9. Contribute Pro South Books to your Municipal &
School Library - Donate pro-South books (
The South Was Right!, When in the Course of Human
Events) to your local library.
Be sure to have a local newspaper photographer or TV camera crew there when you
make the presentation. This makes a good local story, especially in small towns.
If they fail to show up, have someone take the picture and then
send it to the local
newspaper with a short press release. Note that many "local"
newspapers are actually owned by distant, liberal global publishing empires, so
if they fail to run your story, assume anti - Southern bias played a part in the
rejection.
10. How To Make Rejected Press Coverage Big
Press Coverage - If the local paper
refuses to report on your Southern news event, consider picketing the newspaper
business with a sign like "Newspaper Against Local Southern History &
Heritage". Then you'll probably get newspaper coverage plus local
radio and TV coverage. The establishment media prefers to ignore our events but if
faced with negative publicity that could generate a backlash of resentment
against their actions, then they will often run the story in order to stop the
bad publicity.
11. Buy Pro South Magazine Subscriptions for your Municipal
& School Library - Ask
if you can purchase a magazine gift subscription for a friend, family member,
political or business leader or local library. Consider gift subscriptions to
pro-Southern publications such as The Edgefield Journal, Southern Partisan, or
Southern Events. Contact information is listed above under # 2.
12. Buy a Conventional "Civil War" Magazine
Subscription for the Library - If they are reluctant to say yes, to
the above Southern publications, then consider a politically correct subscription to
Civil War Times Illustrated
or America's
Civil War. The truth of the South’s position still comes through the PC
propaganda required by these magazine publishers.

13. Bring Your Family & Friends To A League Hedge
School Event - Consider attending the League of the South Summer
School and/or Hedge School seminar classes offered at various times and
locations throughout the South. Check out the League of the South site for more
details on the hedge schools and when future events are schedules. You may
also want to check out The
Dixie Calendar for more on the above and over 200 other
scheduled events sponsored by the SCV, LOS, reenactment groups and historical
activities. .
14. Sponsor a League of the South Hedge School in Your
Community - Help
others learn more about Southern history, heritage and culture through the LOS
Hedge School Program. If you are interested in
organizing a Hedge School Seminar in your locality, please contact Dr. Donald
Livingston, Director, League of the South Institute for the Study of Southern
Culture and History, 478 Burlington Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30307; office
telephone and fax: (http://www.newdemocratmagazine.org/spacer.gif) 377-0484.
15. Attend Schools, Conferences & Seminars On Important
Freedom Topics - For seminars on
the free market, constitution, secession and freedom-related topics, review the
excellent seminar schedule sponsored by the Ludwig von Mises
Institute. Other
free market seminars are also sponsored by the Foundation For Economic
Education, Cato Institute,
Future of Freedom Foundation, and the Heritage
Foundation. For a complete list of conservative and free market institutes and
foundations, click to the Austrian
& Free Market Bookstore.
16. Attend Regional, State & National Conventions Of
Pro South Organizations - The Sons
of Confederate Veterans, League of the South, United Daughters of the
Confederacy and the Southern Party among others, have interesting educational
state and national conferences. For a current list of Southern events,
conferences, schools and reenactments, link to The
Dixie Calendar.
17. Buy
the Conference Audio & Video Tapes If You Can't Attend In Person - If
you can't attend the above conferences consider ordering the tapes,
transcripts and video recordings of SCV, LOS and other conferences you might
have missed.
18. Buy Time on a Local Radio Station and Spread the
Message - Many talk and religious stations have time available
outside of prime hours. Consider purchasing audio cassettes from the Apologia
Book Shoppe or the League of the South.
19. Buy
and Distribute Southern Audio and Video Tapes - Consider
the History and Literature of the
South Lecture Tape, series sponsored by the LS
Institute For the Study of Southern History and Culture or the
Southern Independence Day Video or the march and speeches in Montgomery,
Alabama. Also consider ordering the many Southern heritage videos from the
HK Edgerton Book & Video Store including From the Dome to the
Ground - Columbia, SC July 1, 2000 an exclusive interview with H. K.
Edgerton and Southern Heritage Celebration 2000 - Columbia, SC January 8,
2000.
20. Promote A
Confederate Mascot For Your Local School Sports Team - Don't
expect to win in this type of effort until we are stronger, but just going on
the offensive for something like this with publicity, petitions etc. will put
the "fear of God" into the local PC crowd which could relieve their
offensive pressure in another heritage situations in this cultural war against
Dixie. Remember in all situations, we must stop
fighting defensively and go on the offensive even if we loose most of the
attacks.
21. Are Your
Personally Uncomfortable With Confederate Symbols? - Although
I personally believe that we must stand behind our sacred symbols, some of our
compatriots honestly believe that we should downplay the Confederate Flag
because our enemies constantly mention the few instances that racists have
stolen our Southern symbols. If you agree with this action for marketing and
promotional reasons, then get involved with and help promote Jim Lancaster's Home Rule For Dixie
Website. I want more people to defend Dixie and I support Jim's approach
and any others that many bring more compatriots to our ranks. For more information click on this
